Bollywood’s iconic star, Shashi Kapoor took his last breath on Monday at 5.20 pm in Kokilaben hospital, Mumbai. Bollywood mourned the death of the veteran actor. The final rite of Shashi Kapoor was carried at Santacruz Hindu Crematorium. Shashi Kapoor was given state funeral which was held on Tuesday amid massive security around 12 noon.
The dead body of the actor was wrapped in Tiranga and Mumbai police gave a three-gun salute. Not only this, but the police officers went down on knees to show their respect to the legendary actor who spent almost four decades in the industry. In spite of not being Prime minister or the chief minister of the state, the actor was cremated with national honor which came as a shock to many.
If you are thinking why Shashi Kapoor was cremated with national honor, let me tell you that the actor has been awarded Padma Bhushan. Generally, national award is given to PM, Chief Ministers and other important individuals of the country. However, its the government who can decide to give this award to someone else whom they think deserves the honor.
Now, Padma Bhushan award is given to any individual with a remarkable contribution in the field of politics, art, science, commerce, and law. Not only Padma Bhushan, they can also be awarded other National awards like Padma Vibhushan, and Bharat Ratna.
Bollywood celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Rishi Kapoor, Salim Khan, Supriya Pathak, Shah Rukh Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Salman Khan, Randhir Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Anil Kapoor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Shakti Kapoor were present at the ceremony among others.
