In the bid to murder her husband, a newly-wed bride from Muzaffargarh in the southwestern Punjab province of Pakistan ends up killing 13 family members instead. According to the reports published on Telegraph, the woman mixed some poison in a glass of milk with the intention to kill her husband. Unfortunately, her mother in law picked up the same glass to make lassi.
She used the poisoned milk to make lassi for a member of 27 people. Asiya wanted to kill her husband Amjad, who fortunately refused to drink the lassi made by his mother. 13 family members died after drinking the poisoned lassi while other family members are in the critical condition in hospital. The family initially believed the lassi was poisoned due to a lizard.
On investigation, it was found that poison was mixed in the milk to kill a person. While in custody, Asiya confessed about planning her husband’s murder. It was known that Asiya had made a plot with her lover to escape the marriage two months ago. Two months after troubled marriage, the 21-year-old bride, who was in love with someone else decided to kill her 25-year-old husband.
Three people including Asiya’s lover and aunt, who are suspected to play a role in the whole plot are arrested by the police. Asiya blamed her lover and said it was his plan to murder Amjad. She said ‘Shahid told me to poison the beverage but I didn’t do it. He asked me to marry him but I refused.’
Forced marriages are quite popular in Pakistan. According to studies, it was reported that highest number of forced marriages are reported in Pakistan. Incidents of poisoning to escape forced trap are common cases in Punjab and Pakistan.
