Deepika Mehta turned to yoga after a tragic rock climbing incident when the doctors told she could never walk in her life again. In 1997, after the unfortunate accident of Deepika, she was left with nothing but to try yoga which she hoped would heal her and allow her to walk again.
Deepika started practicing Ashtanga Yoga in 2002 under Guru Shri K Pattabhi Jois and started training at the Sivananda Yoga Kendra in Kerala. In the search for an alternative healing technique, Deepika Mehta started practicing Pranayam and meditation on daily basis.
Not only this, but Deepika than traveled around the world and gained knowledge from various masters like Richard Freeman, Dena Kingsberg, Prem Carlisi, Lino Miele, and Rolf Naujokat.
Today, Deepika is quite famous for her yoga and also has her own TV show called Yoga city. Deepika’s popularity is not only limited to you and me, but this hottie has also trained Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, Nimrat Kaur, Alia Bhatt, Bipasha Basu Lisa Haydon, Deepika Padukone, Vidya Balan, Vinod Chopra, Preity Zinta, Avanti and Yash Birla, Neha Dhupia, Jacqueline Fernandez, Anupama Chopra and Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
While reporting to Mid day, she said,
“Devotion; that quality of surrender to a practice,to the Guru,to your teacher,to the Supreme. This quality for me is the most important in my practice and in my life. It gives me a sense of hope in something greater than myself. It helps me connect to my personal God. It helps me find the balance between ‘doing’ and ‘being’. It helps me trust in the Universe. It is one of the reasons I practice.”
Deepika has also been the face of the fitness campaign 2015 with Elle India. She has also been featured in vogue, 2014 as women redefining beauty ideals in India. Today, she resides in Mumbai and takes regular yoga classes in Bandra, Mumbai.
Deepika once said in an interview,
“This year I feel like a lot of my dreams have been manifesting; travel, amazing work,my incredible life partner.. but the one thing I forgot to prioritise equally was peace, health and stillness ..and I realise without those these things whatever manifests on the outside seems like you are still missing something. So I am going to slow down my pace a little of stuff on the outside so I can pay more and more attention to the inside. For to truly see a Change in the world ..you have to Truly BE That Change”
Deepika is one of the top leading yoga gurus not only in Mumbai but throughout the country. She helps her students to achieve ultimate mind and peace through this ancient practice.
We are proud of you, Deepika!
